The acronym AWANA is taken from the Bible and it stands for "Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed."
While
the Apostle Paul was in prison in Rome, he wrote a letter to his young
friend, Timothy. In 2 Timothy 2:15, Paul encouraged Timothy to study
the Scriptures as an "Approved Workmen."
Timothy
was a faithful Christian who lived about 2,000 years ago. He had a
godly mother and grandmother who trained him to love the Lord. On the
Apostle Paul's second missionary journey, Timothy served as his
companion and helper. He later became a dedicated teacher and preacher
of God's Word.
The AWANA program meets every
Wednesday night from 6:30 pm until 8:00 pm with programs for children
from 3 years old through 6th grade. Children meet with others their
age to hear Bible stories, memorize Bible verses, and participate in
games and other fun activities.
