ONGOING MISSIONS

Women on Mission: The Woman’s Missionary Union (WMU) group for adult women, Women on Mission (WOM) gather monthly to study and pray for missionaries and their work to spread the gospel world-wide. The day group meets on 1st Thursday at 10:30 AM. An evening group meets on 3rd Monday at 7:00 PM.

Food Pantry: Members bring non-perishable and canned goods and/or give monetary donations for perishable goods for those in need in our immediate community.  Donations are now being accepted .

Nifty Knitters: Whether you are a beginner or novice you are welcome to come out and fellowship and have fun with these ladies as they knit or crochet hats and baby blankets for different ministries in our community. Group gathers every Monday at 9:30 AM.

Back Pack Ministry: Volunteers fill 120 backpacks every month during the school year with nutritious snacks for underprivileged children.  Check the calendar for packing and delivery dates.

OASISMINISTRY: Volunteers gather at the downtown Portsmouth mission on the 1st Thursday each month to cook and serve breakfast for the area’s homeless.

ANNUAL EMPHASIS

Eastern Shore Migrant Mission: An opportunity to minister to the world at our door.  Volunteers spend a week in the Eastern Shore camps conducting Vacation Bible School for the children and Bible Study for the adults.

Lakota Indians Mission: Volunteers travel to the Standing Rock Reservation in South Dakota along with members from other churches in our area and throughout Virginia.  They carry the gospel to this tribe of Native Americans, conducting Vacation Bible School with the children and teaching crafts to the women.  Using every opportunity, they share the saving message of Jesus Christ.

International Mission Trips: Taking the gospel abroad.  Members have traveled to Central and South America and to Eastern Europe.  They’ve been involved in building orphanages and churches, repairing and painting church facilities, ministering one-on-one throughout the local community, and conducting daytime Bible studies for children and adults.

Lottie Moon Christmas Offering: Collected through the month of December.  All donations go directly to over 5,000 International SBC Mission Board missionaries to meet specific ministry needs.

Annie Armstrong Easter Offering: All donations go directly to support North American Mission efforts of the SBC.  The offering is usually collected during the month of Easter (March or April).

Alma Hunt Offering: All donations support BGAV State Missions.  The offering is usually collected during September.

Portsmouth Baptist Association Mission Offering: Donations support local mission efforts conducted by the PBA.
